19.8.17 Bayswater fire: Huge blaze breaks out in west London townhouse

Dozens of fire fighters were called to the massive blaze in a west London flat.

Flames gutted two apartments inside the Bayswater townhouse in Kensington Gardens Square after the fire broke out, the London Fire Brigade stated.

Smoke billowed from windows as nearly 60 fire fighters battled for hours to extinguish the blaze.

A London Fire Brigade spokesman stated that eight fire engines and 58 fire fighters and officers were called to a flat fire on Kensington Gardens Square in Bayswater.

The fire gutted two flats - one on the third floor and one on the fourth floor of the converted five storey mid-terraced town house.

Eight people left the property before the Brigade arrived and two cars were damaged by falling debris.

Station Manager Nick Saunders, who was at the scene, added: "This was a challenging fire and crews worked hard to contain it and to stop it from spreading further than the two affected flats.  A turntable ladder was also used to fight the fire."

There were no reports of any injuries.

The cause of the blaze is being investigated.
