7.10.16 Two people rescued after fire destroys remote Moray chalet

Investigation launched into the circumstances of the incident near Tomintoul, Scotland.

A group of friends on a whisky tour in Scotland have told how they helped rescue a woman from a fire at a chalet near Tomintoul.

The five men passing in a car alerted the emergency services after spotting smoke coming from a vent in the building.  They then smashed their way in after hearing a woman shouting for help.

Five fire crews, with support from an incident control unit, battled for four hours to bring the fire under control.

The man and a woman, who had been inside the property were rescued and taken to hospital for burns and smoke inhalation.

Motorists on the remote A939 Lecht road faced long delays and diversions while crews worked at the scene.

An investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the incident, with specialist officers returning to the scene.
