25.4.2016 Southall garage 'arson attack' leaves man, 21, dead

A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a 21-year-old died following an early morning garage blaze in west London.

Fire crews, police and paramedics were sent out to Cranleigh Gardens, Southall, after the single-storey building went up in flames.

The man was pulled from the blaze by fire fighters when they arrived and rushed to a specialist burns unit in Essex for treatment.  However, despite the efforts of medics, he was pronounced dead in hospital.

The London Fire Brigade said the man was rescued from the garage after the building collapsed.  Around 21 fire fighters tackled the blaze, which destroyed the single-storey garage.

Four fire engines from Southall, Ealing and Northolt fire stations attended the scene.

The London Ambulance Service said it had also sent multiple resources, including London's Air Ambulance, to the scene.

Police and the fire brigade said the cause of the fire was under investigation, with officers from Ealing leading enquiries.
